Remembrance of Gian Marco Moratti 1936 - 2018

"I met Gian Marco Moratti during the exhibition we made in Fuorisalone 2012 in Fazioli Pianoforti in Corso Monforte in Milan."

I was showing a line of forniture, ReLuxO (Recycling Luxury Objects), I had designed and made realise to some young men of "his" San Patrignano, in Pergine's branch. He was really happy about the outcome. He told me that if everyone involved other people with the same enthusiasm I had, "Sampa" could probably not exist. Gian Paolo Moratti infused enthusiasm with his presence alone, he listened to and trusted everybody. When I asked him to say a few words, he did it as if he were nobody, while he was the first. Not only for what he represented but for what he were. He wasn't only a stimated head of oil company, but he gave hope to ten, hundred, thousand young men living in Emilia Romagna. Boys and girls very unlucky at first, became really lucky to find themselves there. He told me that he really liked my forniture design because they were recycled objects. Thanks to a refined manufacturing we gave these objects new function and new life. He cared about people's work (the boys of "Sampa") and about the idea that from a disused object could be born a new and more valued one. The mataphor was clear.

There are occasions in our professional life that are extraordinary moments for personal growth. I found one of them when I met and worked with Gian Marco Moratti and for that I will always be grateful.
